“The course helped me feel less isolated, less stressed and more able to cope with the caring role.”
“Just go for it and take the opportunity to learn a new skill or hobby. No matter how little spare time you get as a carer it is vitally important to do something for yourself. I have found arts and crafts very therapeutic and a welcome escape from the day to day routine of life as a carer.”
We run free training sessions, workshops, learning days and short courses. Workshops and training sessions last 2 – 3 hours, learning days 4 – 5 hours and courses are usually 2 hours a week for 3 – 6 weeks duration.
Some of our courses and workshops are on caring related topics, such as:
- basic first aid
- planning for the future
- energy saving
Other courses and workshops are for leisure, relaxation or personal development, such as:
- living life to the full
- relaxation/holistic therapies
- humorous talks eg. "Insight into the Career of a Probation Officer", "Have Guitar Will Travel", Meet a Viking"
Courses may be held at our offices in Thicketford Centre in comfortable surroundings and amongst a friendly group of carers. Or they may be held in community venues around the borough.
Charges: Our courses are free of charge to carers and, as they are very popular, it is advisable to book early. All courses are advertised in our newsletter.
